The Nigerian Navy has announced the death of the Chief of Operations, Naval Headquarters, Musa Bello Katagum.
In a statement issued in February 2026, the Navy said Rear Admiral Katagum passed away after a protracted illness. He has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Until his demise, he served as Chief of Operations at the Naval Headquarters, where the service said his contributions were instrumental to its recent operational successes.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, officers, ratings and civilian staff described his death as a profound loss to the Navy and the nation, noting that he was a dedicated and highly respected senior officer.
According to the statement, his career was marked by exceptional professionalism, commitment to duty and significant contributions to naval operations and national security.
The Navy further stated that throughout his distinguished service, Rear Admiral Katagum demonstrated exemplary leadership, strategic insight and unwavering loyalty to the ideals and mission of the Service
It extended condolences to his family, friends and associates, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire personnel across the Armed Forces.
