The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has commended Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) on the successful completion of the Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well in the shallow offshore western Niger Delta.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, Andy Odeh.
According to Andy Odeh, the Awodi-07 well was drilled under the NNPC Ltd/Chevron Nigeria Limited Joint Venture as part of ongoing efforts to unlock additional hydrocarbon potential within the asset portfolio of the partnership.
He explained that drilling operations began in late November 2025 and were completed by mid-December 2025, with all activities carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and operational standards.
Odeh noted that following comprehensive testing, logging, and data acquisition, the well was safely secured, marking the successful conclusion of the drilling programme.
Results from the Awodi-07 well were described as highly encouraging, confirming the presence of significant hydrocarbons across multiple reservoir zones and reinforcing the prospectivity of the area.
The discovery, according to NNPC Ltd, represents a major milestone for the Joint Venture and underscores the effectiveness of disciplined exploration, sound technical evaluation, and strong operational collaboration between both partners.
Reacting to the development, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, praised Chevron Nigeria Limited for its operational excellence, technical competence, and consistent value delivery.
Ojulari said the success of Awodi-07 aligns with NNPC Ltd’s strategic priorities of growing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves, boosting production, enhancing energy security, and delivering sustainable value to Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Ltd, Udy Ntia, described the results as proof of the benefits of sustained collaboration, technical rigour, and the reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act.
He added that NNPC Ltd looks forward to working closely with Chevron Nigeria Limited to advance the Awodi-07 discovery towards timely development and monetisation, in line with the Joint Venture’s target of increasing production to about 146,000 barrels per day.
