Following the Oyo State High Court ruling affirming the legality of the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2025 National Convention, the Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) in compliance with the judgment.
The court on Friday upheld the November 15 and 16, 2025 convention of the PDP, declaring the exercise valid and its outcome binding on relevant authorities.
Reacting in a statement issued in Abuja, the CP-PDP described the decision as a victory for internal democracy and the rule of law, insisting that the declaratory order must be implemented without delay.
“It was imperative to draw the attention of Nigerians and all political stakeholders to the declaratory order of the judgment,” the statement read, noting that the court ruled the convention “was legal and valid.”
The group stressed that the judgment places an obligation on INEC and other institutions to recognise the leadership that emerged from the convention. “INEC should immediately give effect to the outcome of the 2025 National Convention by recognizing the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee,” it stated.
Beyond INEC’s recognition, the CP-PDP also called on the Nigeria Police to unseal the PDP National Secretariats in Abuja, including Wadata Plaza and Legacy House, to enable the new leadership resume official duties.
“The police must allow the Turaki-led NWC access to the complex to perform its legitimate duty of running the affairs of the party,” the group added, while requesting adequate security protection as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.
The CP-PDP further commended the judiciary for upholding the supremacy of political parties in managing internal affairs, noting that the Supreme Court had previously established that principle in its decisions.
