The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has deepened following the defection of a serving lawmaker to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Hon. Dawood Akanni Olalere, who represents Ibadan North West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, formally resigned from the PDP in a letter dated February 13, 2026.
In the letter addressed to the PDP Ward 7 Chairman in Ibadan North West Local Government Area, the lawmaker cited persistent and irreconcilable divisions within the party as reasons for his exit.
Olalere, popularly known as D-Al-Ameen, said the prolonged internal challenges had made it difficult for the party to function effectively.
He stated that his decision followed careful reflection and aligns with his personal convictions as well as the political interests of his constituents and supporters.
Shortly after announcing his resignation, the lawmaker was formally received into the ADC at a reception in Ibadan attended by party leaders and supporters.
The Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Barr. Bimpe Adelowo, confirmed that he joined the party alongside thousands of loyalists, describing the move as a major boost to its grassroots strength.
Party officials said the defection also gives the ADC a legislative presence in the Oyo State House of Assembly, signaling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
