In the wake of the 132nd day of Israel’s relentless military campaign and global outcry against the move to invade Rafah, Ambassador Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh of the Embassy of the State of Palestine to Nigeria issued a stark condemnation of Israel’s actions,
Shawesh in a statement obtained by Global Sentinel on Monday, urged for immediate international intervention to halt the escalating violence.
According to him, Israel’s use of advanced military weaponry, including F-15s, F-16s, and F-35s, has resulted in the destruction of refugee camps and the deaths of thousands of vulnerable Palestinian civilians. He noted that the dire situation has been exacerbated by a lack of access to proper medical treatment, leading to further casualties and the looming threat of famine.
Highlighting the critical role of Western support in sustaining Israeli aggression, the Ambassador emphasised the urgent need for the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions. He underscored the disproportionate impact of the conflict on Palestinian civilians, particularly in Gaza, where residents are faced with the harrowing choice between death, injury, or displacement.
Citing alarming statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), Shawesh revealed the staggering toll of the conflict, with thousands dead or injured and essential healthcare facilities severely compromised. He warned of the heightened risk of infectious disease outbreaks due to unsanitary conditions and overcrowding, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
Expressing grave concern over Israel’s plans to invade the city of Rafah, the Envoy called attention to the potential for a catastrophic loss of life and urged the international community to intervene to prevent further bloodshed. He also called on the United States, in particular, to use its influence to end the violence by cutting off military support to Israel and advocating for a ceasefire resolution in the Security Council.
Shawesh issued a passionate plea for action, emphasising that history would judge those who failed to act in the face of such blatant human rights violations. He urged the world to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
