Rotary International District 9127 has concluded plans to host this year’s edition of the World Polio Day. It is a week-long programme that will involve all the six Rotary Districts in Nigeria. The District Governor of District 9127, Rotarian Princess Joy Okoro will be hosting her counterparts from the five other Rotary International Districts in Nigeria.

The visiting District Governors are Rotarian Henry Akinyele, District 9111; Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin, District 9112; Rotarian Funkeakpo Ken Batife, District 9126; Rotarian Anthony Osaretin Woghiren, District 9141 and Rotarian Kelechi Alozie Anyanwu, District 9142.

In a press statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, Dr Max Amuchie, District 9127 Media Relations Chair, said the celebration would kick off on Friday, 17th October 2025 with a Jumaat service at Ansar Ud Deen Mosque, Aminu Kano Crescent, Maitama, Abuja at 1.30pm.

On Sunday, 19th October 2025, there will be an interdenominational church service at St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja, at 10am.

On Monday, 20th October, 2025, Rotarian Joy Okoro will lead Rotarians on advocacy visit to the Presidential Villa and the National Assembly, Abuja at 10am.

The following day, Tuesday, 21st October 2025, Rotarians will move to Wuse Market, Abuja to create awareness on polio. The programme in Wuse Market will begin at 9am.

On Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, activities will move to the Rotary House, Abuja for District/club activities showcase. It will hold at 4pm.

On Thursday, 23rd October 2025, there will be mass polio immunisation outreach across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory. Each District Governor will supervise the outreach in an Area Council.

The host District Governor, Joy Okoro, will supervise immunisation outreach in Abaji Area Council with Rotarian Folashade Angela Samuels, President of the Rotary Club of Wuse Central as the team leader.

The District Governor of District 9112, Lanre Adedoyin, will supervise the immunisation outreach in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) with Rotarian Abiodun Oyebanji, President, Rotary Club Abuja (Grandfather) as team leader.

For Bwari Area Council outreach, the supervisor is Rotarian Ken Batife, Governor of District 9126. The team leader for Bwari Area Council outreach is Rotarian Maha Altine Longe, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama.

Rotarian Henry Akinyele, Governor of District 9111 will supervise the immunisation outreach in Gwagwalada Area Council with Rotarian Caroline Morah, President of the Rotary Club of Jabi Lakeside as team leader.

Kuje Area Council polio immunisation outreach has Rotarian Anthony Woghiren, Governor of District 9141 as supervisor. The team leader is Rotarian Frederick Odika, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro.

For Kwali Area Council outreach, Rotarian Kelechi Anyanwu, Governor of District 9142 is the supervisor. The team leader is Rotarian Adams Oyarekhua, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Ministers Hill.

The same day there will be a mini boat regatta at Jabi Lake, Abuja at 3pm and a cultural night at the Sir Emeka Offor Hall, Rotary Centre, Abuja at 8pm.

The week-long programme will come to a close on Friday, 24th October 2025. There will be a road walk from Old Parade Ground, Area 10 to Area 1 after which there will be a press conference and polio vaccination at the Rotary Centre, Abuja at 11am. A para soccer tournament involving polio survivors will hold at Old Parade Ground, Abuja at 4pm.
