President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to swear in tax policy expert Taiwo Oyedele today as Minister of State for Finance, a move seen as part of the administration’s push to strengthen fiscal reforms and improve Nigeria’s tax and revenue framework.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the new minister will formally join the federal cabinet overseeing the country’s financial and economic management.

Oyedele was nominated by the president to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who was recently redeployed to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning following a cabinet reshuffle.

Uzoka-Anite’s redeployment marks her third ministerial assignment since the inauguration of the Tinubu Administration, reflecting ongoing adjustments within the government’s economic team.

Before his nomination, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to review Nigeria’s tax system and develop policies aimed at expanding revenue generation.

Under the committee, the federal government pursued reforms designed to modernise the country’s tax structure and support broader economic recovery initiatives.

The 50-year-old economist and public finance specialist is from Ikaram-Akoko in Ondo State, and is widely recognised for his work in fiscal policy and tax advisory.

Oyedele began his academic career at Yaba College of Technology, where he earned a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance, before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom.

He also attended executive education programmes at leading global institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science in South Africa and the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.

Prior to joining government, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, where he advised governments and multinational organisations on tax policy, fiscal governance and economic reform strategies.

Beyond professional practice, he is active in academia, serving as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, contributing to research and policy discussions on taxation, public finance and economic policy.
