Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified military operations against terrorist strongholds in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States, aiming to protect communities and neutralize armed groups. The offensive began earlier this week and is part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to restore security in the North West.
In Sokoto State on March 25, 2026, soldiers of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate contacts at Magonho Forest. The operations led to the elimination of three bandits and the recovery of three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.
In Zamfara State, troops carried out an ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road, neutralizing two terrorists while others fled. Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle.
Later that day, terrorists attempted to attack Kaida Village in retaliation, accusing residents of cooperating with the military. Troops responded decisively, killing another terrorist and recovering an additional AK-47 rifle.
Acting on credible intelligence, soldiers also conducted a clearance operation in Dutsi Village, Moriki District, Zurmi Local Government Area. The operation forced fleeing terrorists to abandon one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 26 rounds of ammunition under sustained military pressure.
In Kebbi State, troops moving to Giron Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area were ambushed by the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) about 500 metres from the village. Reinforcements were deployed, and intelligence-led operations to track and neutralize the fleeing terrorists are ongoing.
The 8 Division/Sector 2 OPFY said it remains committed to dominating the operational space, degrading terrorist capabilities, and protecting law-abiding citizens. The military highlighted that troop morale is high, and their actions reflect courage, professionalism, and dedication to national service.
The Division affirmed that operations will continue across the North West to ensure the safety and security of communities, in line with directives from the Chief of Army Staff, as part of broader efforts to stabilize the region.
