The United Kingdom, UK Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, has concluded the official visit to Nigeria focused on deepening the UK-Nigeria Strategic Partnership and reinforcing long-term cooperation across trade, security, and governance.

During his three days visit, Lord Collins met with key Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, with the UK’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Florence Eshalomi MP.

Lord Collins reaffirmed the UK’s strong commitment to strengthening economic ties, enhancing security collaboration, and supporting democratic values.

High-level discussions emphasized the importance of expanding UK-Nigeria trade and investment to boost mutual economic growth.Both sides agreed on the need for a resilient and inclusive economic partnership that delivers sustainable prosperity.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, highlighted the significance of the visit, stating that, driving growth is central to the UK’s foreign and development policy.

Lord Collins’ visit underscores the UK’s unwavering commitment to deepening  shared prosperity through expanded trade and investment.

The UK Minister for Africa also engaged with United Nations representatives to discuss ongoing UN reform and how it can better support vulnerable communities, particularly in Northeast Nigeria.

The UK pledged continued support for humanitarian efforts and stability initiatives in the region.

Lord Collins toured Nigeria’s Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell, a UK-supported initiative that harnesses British expertise via the National Crime Agency and the Integrated Security Fund. The Cell plays a crucial role in addressing serious organized crime and improving safety for Nigerian communities.

In addition, Lord Collins met with civil society leaders to explore opportunities for improving electoral integrity, advancing governance reform, and increasing women’s political participation.

In his discussions with Nigeria’s National Assembly leadership, he emphasized the UK’s support for democratic institutions and parliamentary engagement between the two countries.

Commenting on his visit, Lord Collins said: “Nigeria and the UK share a rich, ambitious relationship, one that is deeply rooted in respect.

“Our Strategic Partnership is at the forefront of this, and my visit has focused on how our countries can continue deepening our cooperation on key issues such as trade and investment to drive economic growth and deliver prosperity for us all.”
