In a significant move aimed at integrating environmental advocacy with political power, renowned journalist and environmental rights crusader, Etta Michael Bisong, has officially joined Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Friday, September 5, 2025, during a brief ceremony in Abuja attended by party executives, environmental stakeholders, and members of the APC Climate Change Network (ACCN).

Bisong, who now serves as the Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Climate Change Network, stated that his decision to enter active politics was born out of a deep understanding of the critical connection between governance and sustainable development.

According to him, “climate change is no longer a distant threat but a daily reality for millions of Nigerians, especially those in frontline communities who suffer the brunt of flooding, extreme weather, displacement, food insecurity, and infrastructural collapse.”

He stressed that while the challenges are immense, they also present opportunities for Nigeria to embrace intentional climate governance as a tool to reinvent its development path and build long-term resilience.

Bisong noted that, “achieving meaningful climate action requires more than advocacy it demands political will and involvement.”

He called on fellow environmentalists to step into political spaces where decisions are made and policies shaped, insisting that environmental governance must be a national priority.

He acknowledged the leadership of the APC Wuse Ward for their warm reception and encouragement, describing the APC as an inclusive platform capable of driving positive environmental change.

Citizen Greg Odogwu, who has been a member of the APC since 2014 and a vocal advocate for patriotic civic engagement, welcomed Bisong’s addition to the network as a milestone for climate advocacy in Nigeria.

Odogwu, also an experienced environmental journalist, noted that Bisong’s over 17 years of experience in media and climate affairs will be instrumental in mobilising green votes and strengthening the APC’s climate agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his remarks, Ayuba Idi, the Chairman of the APC Wuse Ward, lauded Bisong for choosing the APC as the platform to promote environmental sustainability.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to good governance and described the APC as a political community open to all Nigerians who wish to transform the nation through impactful policies.

Idi also emphasised the supremacy of the party’s constitution and urged members to remain loyal and steer clear of any anti-party activities.
