In a notable moment for Nigeria’s academic community, a brilliant Nigerian scholar, Mr. Raphael Ebiefung, has been awarded the highly prestigious Grace Jordan McFadden Professor Program Fellowship at the University of South Carolina, USA.

The esteemed fellowship, reserved for top-tier scholars with a proven track record of academic excellence and social impact, positions Mr. Ebiefung among a select group of intellectuals driving change in higher education and interdisciplinary research globally.

In a statement made available to Global Sentinel, Mr. Ebiefung described the award as a “milestone that underscores Nigeria’s capacity to produce world-class scholars.”

He said, “I am deeply honoured to receive the Grace Jordan McFadden Fellowship. It is a testament to the resilience and potential of young Nigerian academics striving to make global impact.”

Ebiefung before relocating to the United States, made significant contributions to Nigeria’s educational development.

He served as Assistant Lecturer at Topfaith University, where he taught foundational courses such as Use of Library, Study Skills, and ICTs. His dedication to student success was evident through his classroom teaching, assessments, and grading responsibilities.

He also made history as the pioneer University Librarian of Topfaith University, where he played a key role in establishing the institution’s library services, mentoring students, and advising university leadership on academic support strategies.

Mr. Ebiefung’s work extends beyond Nigeria. He facilitated a high-level workshop on the application of Heutagogy an innovative learner-centered teaching model at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. This initiative promoted modern pedagogical approaches that empower learners to take ownership of their educational experiences.

Currently, he serves as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of South Carolina, where his research focuses on human AI interaction and information behavior.

“My research seeks to understand the dynamics of human behavior in relation to AI systems. This area is critical as we move deeper into the digital age,” he explained.

The Nigerian academic community has hailed Mr. Ebiefung’s achievement as a testament to the global competitiveness and intellectual strength of Nigerian scholars. Speaking on the development, an education consultant, Dr. Chika Ibe, said: “Raphael Ebiefung’s recognition abroad is a proud moment for Nigeria. It proves that our scholars can compete and excel internationally.”

The Grace Jordan McFadden Fellowship is one of the most competitive academic fellowships in the United States, aimed at grooming future academic leaders committed to diversity, equity, and transformative teaching.
