In a decisive move to contain rising tensions, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and resources to Plateau State following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
The reinforcement, comprising tactical units, Police Mobile Force operatives, and intelligence teams, is aimed at restoring law and order while tracking down those responsible for the killings.
The police chief condemned the attack, describing the loss of innocent lives as tragic and unacceptable.
As part of swift intervention measures, the IGP had earlier dispatched the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Shehu Nadada, to oversee security operations on ground.
The DIG is tasked with assessing the situation, coordinating response efforts, and strengthening collaboration among security agencies in the state.
The Inspector-General emphasized that the intensified operations would remain in force until peace is fully restored across affected areas.
He also directed field commanders to enhance visible policing and deepen engagement with communities considered vulnerable to attacks.
The IGP extended his condolences to the Plateau State Government and families of victims, particularly those in the Angwan Rukuba community.
He urged residents to remain calm and support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
The police boss further cautioned against reprisals, calling on citizens to uphold the rule of law and allow security forces to carry out their duties effectively.
