The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving pension and welfare concerns affecting retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

He gave the assurance during a meeting with a delegation of retired officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where issues of gratuities and post service welfare dominated discussions.

In a statement by Anthony Okon Placid, the police boss acknowledged that pension related challenges remain a major concern requiring urgent intervention.

Disu noted that his leadership is actively exploring practical pathways to address the situation while engaging relevant authorities to ensure sustainable outcomes.

As part of the measures, the IGP introduced a direct advocacy channel that allows retirees to forward their petitions through his office for onward presentation to the President.

He explained that the initiative is designed to fast track consideration of the pension reform bill and amplify the voices of retired officers at the highest level of government.

The IGP also reassured the retirees of their constitutional right to peaceful expression, pledging that adequate security would be provided if they choose to lawfully press their demands.

In addition, Disu disclosed plans to support the families of retired officers by facilitating opportunities for their children, particularly during recruitment exercises.

He stressed that the sacrifices made by retired personnel must be recognized through policies that protect their dignity and livelihood.

The meeting ended with renewed assurances that the Force remains committed to the welfare of its officers, both in active service and after retirement.
