France has recorded its first confirmed Ebola case on national territory after a doctor returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where a major outbreak of the disease is ongoing.
The patient arrived in Paris on a commercial flight from Kinshasa and reportedly showed only mild symptoms during the journey.
French health authorities said the individual was immediately isolated and placed under medical care upon arrival.
The health ministry confirmed that the patient remains in stable condition and is receiving treatment under close supervision.
Officials have launched contact-tracing efforts to identify and monitor people who may have been exposed to the virus.
The case marks the first detection of Ebola outside Africa during the current outbreak affecting parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Medical humanitarian organisation ALIMA later confirmed that the infected patient is one of its doctors working in the region.
The latest outbreak in eastern Congo was declared in May and has spread across remote communities in Ituri Province, an area already affected by insecurity.
Official figures indicate that more than 1,000 infections and 267 deaths have been recorded, although health experts believe the actual numbers could be higher.
French authorities have reassured the public that the risk of wider transmission remains low, while international health agencies continue to monitor the outbreak closely.
