The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the construction of two service carriageways on the Southern Parkway, as the Tinubu-led administration reaffirmed its commitment to completing infrastructure projects in Abuja.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, flagged off the project from Arterial Road S20 to Ring Road II, describing it as a major road intervention for the FCT.
Yilwatda said the Southern Parkway was designed to improve connectivity across the southern corridor, reduce congestion and enhance movement for residents and businesses.
He explained that the service carriageways would complement the completed main road and ease traffic challenges affecting areas such as Kurudu, Gudu, Gaduwa and Duboyi.
The APC chairman commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for advancing infrastructure development in Abuja, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda was being implemented “street by street and district by district.”
Wike assured residents that projects would continue despite political activities, stating that “politics or no politics, we must continue to do what we have to do to change the narrative of the Federal Capital Territory.”
The minister said CGC Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the project, had committed to delivering the road on schedule, while the FCTA would meet its responsibilities.
He also warned against land grabbing and illegal construction along the corridor, directing officials to remove structures that could hinder the project.
Head of Service, FCT, Nancy Sabanti Nathan, representing the Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, praised President Tinubu and Wike for prioritising infrastructure development.
Nathan said the Southern Parkway project would improve transportation, boost economic activities and strengthen the growth of the Federal Capital Territory.
