President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, declaring that “infrastructure is the foundation of prosperity” as the N16 Interchange linking Jahi and Gwarinpa was commissioned in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President said the project reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda and would improve connectivity, reduce travel time and enhance economic activities across Abuja.
Akpabio described the interchange as “freedom of movement” and “Renewed Hope that you can drive on,” noting that it would end years of traffic congestion between Jahi, Gwarinpa, Kado and adjoining districts.
He said the project would ease the movement of goods and services, improve security and support businesses, workers and students who use the corridor daily.
The Senate President commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for what he described as visible transformation across the capital city, saying Abuja was witnessing unprecedented infrastructure renewal.
He noted that the ongoing project commissioning programme in the FCT had entered its 12th day, adding that the administration was delivering projects that directly impact the lives of residents.
Speaking at the event, Wike said the interchange contract was awarded shortly before the end of the previous administration but was completed because President Tinubu believed that “government is a continuum.”
The minister stated that the present administration had continued inherited projects rather than abandoning them, stressing that continuity was critical to sustainable development.
Wike also highlighted improvements in road infrastructure, water supply and land administration, disclosing that more than 25,000 Certificates of Occupancy had been issued within three years to boost ease of doing business.
He added that projects across the FCT would continue regardless of political activities, insisting that the administration remained focused on changing the development narrative of the nation’s capital.
