The family of the late Colonel Abdulrazaq Abdulkareem Udeh has called for a thorough investigation into his killing, insisting that the senior military officer was deliberately assassinated and not killed while resisting an abduction, as initially reported in some quarters.

In a statement shared on behalf of the family, the deceased’s brother-in-law described the attack as a calculated assault, alleging that Colonel Udeh, a senior intelligence officer, was shot in the head by gunmen, while his wife sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The family’s driver and gateman were also reportedly shot during the incident.

According to the statement, Colonel Udeh had served Nigeria for years and was only months away from a promotion before his life was cut short.

“This was not just another tragic incident. It was a calculated attack on a man who served his country with honour,” the family said, rejecting claims that the officer died while resisting a kidnapping.

The family urged security agencies to conduct a transparent and uncompromising investigation to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack, stressing that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done.

The statement also disclosed that the officer’s wife remains hospitalised and is receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.

The killing has renewed concerns over security in the Federal Capital Territory, with calls for authorities to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and strengthen protection for residents.

The military authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the family’s claims at the time of filing this report.
