The national chairman of the All Progressive Congress(APC),Senator Abdullahi Adamu has approved free nomination forms for all female aspirants in the party.
This was revealed on wednesday in a statement issued after a National Working Committee(NWC) session, coming in the aftermath of the federal high court order to enforce the 35 percent affirmation action in appointment of more women into public office.
The statement stated, “Sen Abdullahi Adamu led National working Committee approves free nomination forms for all Female Aspirants contesting under the platform of the APC. Terms and conditions will apply.”
The National Women Leader APC, Hon Betta Edu, who championed the course, expressed satisfaction while maintaining that the action will remove barriers to women seeking elective offices.
According to Edu, this is as female aspirants are most times constraint by funds,considering huge amount set as fee for the purchase of forms by political parties.
She said, “It has always been my programme to ensure and facilitate increased women participations in the electoral process,even though funding sets some women back, this new initiative by the party which is first of its kind, will endear more women to contest.”
The former Commissioner for Health Cross River State, expressed satisfaction to the Party Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and other excos for making this a reality.
“This, no doubt would awaken the consciousness of females in the party and encourage more women to come out and vie for more political positions,” she added.
