The Kaduna Peace Commission has expressed its dismay over acts of aggression reported in various parts of Kaduna Metropolis during the nationwide protests that began today.
In an official statement, the Commission called on all citizens, especially the youth, to abstain from violence, aggression, and social disorder.
The Commission acknowledged the rights of citizens to express their views, opinions, and grievances concerning government policies and programs. However, it emphasized that such expressions must be conducted lawfully.
“We appeal to parents, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and all people of goodwill to persuade the demonstrators to cease actions that could jeopardize peaceful coexistence in the state,” stated Saleh B. Momale, Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission.
He urged respect for the rights of other Nigerians and the protection of public and private property from vandalism.
The Commission also called on security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and properties in accordance with their constitutional mandate.
Stressing on the need for cooperation, Momale highlighted the importance of working together with the government, community leaders, and security forces to maintain peace, tranquility, and social order during these challenging times.
