The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has launched an inter-secondary school football competition in Idiroko, Ogun State, to discourage youth involvement in border smuggling through sports.
The tournament, organised in partnership with Jonnyyeko College of Health Science and Technology as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, aims to promote discipline, teamwork and positive career opportunities among students.
The Ag. Customs Area Controller, Ogun I Command, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, said the initiative was designed to show young people that they can achieve success through legitimate means beyond illegal border activities.
He noted that the competition would help nurture talents, promote life skills and encourage students to focus on education and productive ventures.
The tournament features 12 secondary school teams from across the local government area, with students participating both on and off the field.
Community leaders, youth groups and education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative as a timely effort to engage young people positively.
Winners and outstanding players will receive prizes, including educational materials and cash rewards.
The competition began on July 13, 2026, at Iko Gate Grammar School, Idiroko, and will end with a grand finale on July 24, 2026.
