A new digital initiative aimed at improving conflict prevention and strengthening peacebuilding efforts across Africa has received renewed attention following a strategic engagement between the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission in Abuja.

The engagement, focused on the development of the Community Peace Monitoring (CPM) Application, a flagship digital platform designed to enhance early warning systems, community-based intelligence gathering and rapid response to emerging security threats across the continent.

In a statement issued to newsmen, representatives of the African Union Commission from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and officials of the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission discussed ways to deepen collaboration and strengthen the role of technology in supporting Africa’s peace and security architecture.

The Community Peace Monitoring Application is designed to provide communities with a platform to report security concerns, monitor potential conflict triggers and support institutions with timely information needed for preventive action.

The initiative is expected to complement the African Union’s “Silencing the Guns in Africa” agenda by promoting community participation in peacebuilding, strengthening conflict prevention mechanisms and supporting efforts to address insecurity before it escalates.

Speaking during the meeting, Global President of the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission, Amb. Dr. Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel, highlighted the importance of innovative approaches in addressing Africa’s peace and security challenges.

He noted that the CPM project reflects the need for stronger partnerships between institutions, communities and technology-driven platforms to create sustainable solutions for conflict prevention and stability across Africa.

The African Union Commission delegation, led by Mrs. Orit Ibrahim, Head of the AUC Early Warning Continental Situation Room, commended the initiative, describing technology-driven solutions and community engagement as critical tools in strengthening Africa’s peace efforts.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation around peacebuilding, early warning systems and continental development, stressing that achieving the aspirations of Agenda 2063 requires proactive measures that place communities at the centre of peace and security efforts.

The collaboration is expected to further support Africa’s drive towards a peaceful, integrated and prosperous continent through innovation, partnership and citizen participation.
