The trial of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai continued on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Federal Government presented another witness as proceedings progressed in the ongoing case.
The witness, lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, told the court he was present at Arise Television on the day El-Rufai made the controversial remarks.
He said he appeared as a guest on the same programme on February 13 when the statements under scrutiny were made.
El-Rufai is facing charges linked to alleged involvement in the unlawful interception of telephone communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The prosecution alleges that the former governor made comments suggesting awareness of illegal monitoring of the NSA’s communications.
Adeyanju, during cross-examination, said he did not hear El-Rufai explicitly admit to hacking telephone lines.
He, however, recalled hearing the former governor say that conversations involving the NSA were listened to.
The court admitted several exhibits, including a subpoena, a video clip of the television interview, and a flash drive containing related material presented by the prosecution.
The case was adjourned until Tuesday for continuation of hearing as the court ordered an accelerated trial to proceed.
