Harvard-trained journalist, also graduate of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at the Tufts University, Medford, in the USA, and former staunch Buharist, Mustapha Shehu (Mustash) has joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing a mammoth crowd at his Galdimare-Kenken Ward in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Shehu expressed his gratitude for the warm reception accorded him, pledging to reciprocate the gesture whenever the opportunity avails itself.

“I am really touched by this honor you have accorded me here today. On my part, I promise that I will never turn my back on you and will do everything possible within my ability to see that the PDP takes its rightful place in the leadership position of the Local Government, State, and the Country at large,” Shehu said.

While expressing his disappointment at the manner the APC-led government is running the affairs of the country, Shehu expressed his optimism that PDP will sweep the 2023 general elections because of the poor performance of the current leadership in the country.

The former Buhari supporter said that the APC-led administration has thrown the country into a mess with poverty pervading all the nooks and crannies of the country.

“Nigerians have never had it so bad. There is hunger and squalor that is occasioned by abject poverty. Inflation is on an all-time high, the educational system is in shambles, right from basic to tertiary education; with over 10 million children out of school.

Our health care system is in a state of decay. People no longer travel for fear of kidnappers and bandits. Even in our own communities we are no longer safe. This was not what we voted for,” Shehu said.

In his short remarks, PDP Chairman of Biu Local Government Alhaji Adamu Maigari welcomed Shehu to the fold of one of the strongest political parties in Africa.

He said, “with your experience as a journalist of international repute and an entrepreneur, the party will benefit from your wealth of experience as an educated member of our community.”

Highlights of the occasion was the symbolic presentation of membership card of the PDP to Shehu by the Galdimare-Kenken Ward PDP Chairman, Alhaji Naziru Umar Hema, amidst fanfare and pageantry.
