In commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD), Dupe Shola, Managing Director of Transcorp Hilton Hotels Abuja, emphasised the importance of women investing in their personal growth and striving for leadership roles in society.

Speaking at an event held in Abuja with the theme “Inspire Inclusion,” Shola underscored the need for a societal environment where everyone is respected and valued, regardless of race, gender, or background.

Shola encouraged women to demonstrate excellence and integrity in all their endeavours, highlighting the significance of seizing opportunities and being prepared for the responsibilities that come with them.

“Say yes to every opportunity that comes your way. When you reach the table, more is expected of you, so you must be ready. Invest in yourself, acquire knowledge, and work to change societal perceptions about women. Leave the door open for other women to climb the ladder,” she emphasized.

During a panel discussion at the event, Olori Atuwatse III, Queen Consort of Warri Kingdom, advocated for mentorship and collaboration among women, citing the invaluable wisdom and experience passed down through mentorship circles.

“In our kingdom, we seek input from women on problem-solving approaches, benefiting greatly from their insights. We acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers, so we learn from their wisdom and experiences,” she remarked.

Imaan Ibrahim, Minister of State for Police Affairs, encouraged women to actively pursue leadership roles to drive societal progress. She also stressed the importance of seeking assistance and support to achieve a balance between work and personal life.

“Don’t hesitate to ask for help. You don’t have to do everything alone. Seek support from your spouses, family, friends, and neighbours to prevent your career from suffering,” Ibrahim advised.
Eugenia Abu, Managing Director of Eugenia Abu Media, emphasized the significance of men as allies, suggesting that partnerships and collaborations with them can lead to mutual advancement.

“Men often have the resources and experience that women can benefit from. Partnering with them and seeking mentorship can significantly contribute to your success,” she noted.

Remi Osifo, Lead Curator of Abuja City Tourist, highlighted the importance of consistency, continuous self-development, and excellence in career pursuits. She encouraged women to start their journeys and embrace learning along the way, trusting that things would fall into place with time.

“Begin your journey and keep learning. Success comes from consistency and dedication. As you progress, you’ll connect the dots and find your path,” Osifo concluded.
The event served as a platform for empowering women and fostering dialogue on issues crucial to their advancement in society.
