The military on Thursday said it has stopped crude oil theft worth over ₦57 billion and neutralized 8,034 terrorists, since January 2024

This was revealed by the Director of Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Edward Buba, during a press briefing held in the Defence headquarters Abuja.

While highlighting the successes of the armed forces in various operations across the country, Buba, said 11,623 suspected terrorist have been arrested. 6,376 hostages rescued and 500 terrorist leaders have been killed.

Recovery made by the military include:
“8,216 weapons (including 4,053 AK-47 rifles and 1,123 locally made guns).
211,459 rounds of ammunition, such as 120,247 rounds of 7.62mm special bullets.
53 million litres of stolen crude oil, 9 million litres of illegally refined diesel (AGO), and other petroleum products.”

The Defence spokesperson assured Nigerians that the military will sustain the pressure to weaken terrorist activities and protect citizens.

“Our operations are making it difficult for terrorists to harm Nigerians or carry out attacks,” he said.
