The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has commended nurses of the Nigerian Air Force for their dedication, professionalism and vital contributions to healthcare delivery within the Armed Forces.

Speaking during the 2026 International Nurses’ Week celebration held at the Nigerian Air Force College of Nursing Sciences on Thursday, the Air Chief described nurses as lifesavers whose commitment continues to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Service.

Represented by Air Commodore AJ Arumona, Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine, Aneke said NAF nurses have consistently demonstrated resilience, compassion and professionalism in both peace and conflict situations.

He noted that beyond their clinical responsibilities, the nurses play a strategic role in sustaining military healthcare support systems and ensuring the wellbeing of personnel.

Speaking on the theme of the 2026 celebration, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” the CAS stressed the importance of continuous training, professional development and improved working conditions for nursing personnel.

According to him, empowering nurses through education and institutional support remains essential to achieving quality healthcare delivery and operational success within the Armed Forces.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force leadership to strengthening healthcare services through sustained investment in medical personnel and infrastructure.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant of NAFCONS, Wing Commander VA Dung, praised nurses and student nurses for their dedication to the profession, describing them as critical pillars of the healthcare system.

Dung urged them to uphold professionalism, embrace innovation and maintain high ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.

The event featured lectures and interactive sessions on leadership, resilience, professional growth and the evolving role of nurses in modern healthcare delivery, reflecting the Nigerian Air Force’s drive to build a skilled and motivated medical workforce.
