The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its resolve to scale up intelligence-driven air operations against terrorists and bandits, as the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, directed commanders to maintain zero tolerance for complacency during ongoing military engagements.
The directive was issued on April 29, 2026, during a strategic operational visit to Bauchi, where the Air Chief addressed personnel at the Headquarters Special Operations Command (HQ SOC) and other co-located units.
Speaking at a durbar with troops, Aneke emphasised the importance of aligning strategic intent with operational execution, noting that the Command remains critical to national security and the delivery of decisive airpower across multiple theatres of operation.
He stressed that all missions must be guided by credible intelligence and designed to achieve measurable outcomes in degrading terrorist capabilities. According to him, the Service must sustain a high level of professionalism, readiness, and coordination with ground forces to effectively neutralise emerging threats.
The Air Chief commended personnel for their resilience and commitment, attributing recent operational successes and improved force protection to their dedication in challenging environments.
As part of the visit, Aneke conducted an inspection of operational platforms, facilities, and infrastructure within the Command to assess readiness levels. The exercise, he noted, was aimed at strengthening efficiency, improving response capability, and ensuring that all equipment remains fully serviceable for ongoing and future missions.
In a move to reinforce civil-military relations, the CAS also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, where he highlighted the importance of public trust and community cooperation in achieving sustainable security outcomes.
The Emir, in his remarks, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its sustained efforts in safeguarding lives and property, noting that its operations have continued to enhance peace and stability within the state and beyond.
Aneke further disclosed that the NAF is advancing efforts to boost operational capability through the acquisition of modern platforms and the integration of advanced intelligence systems. He added that ongoing training programmes are being intensified to ensure personnel are adequately prepared to operate sophisticated equipment in dynamic security environments.
Reiterating his leadership stance, the CAS warned that complacency would not be tolerated, urging commanders to demonstrate courage, discipline, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He also assured personnel of continued improvements in welfare and infrastructure, including plans to upgrade accommodation and expand support facilities across NAF formations.
The Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Ahmed Idris, affirmed that the Command remains aligned with the strategic directives of the Air Chief and is maintaining a high operational tempo in support of national security objectives.
