Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, His Excellency Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, visited the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit provided an opportunity for both countries to review existing military-to-military relations and explore additional areas of cooperation aimed at enhancing security and professional capacity within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Receiving the Saudi envoy, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, expressed appreciation for the visit and stressed the importance Nigeria attaches to its longstanding relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Oluyede called for the sustenance and expansion of existing channels of defence cooperation, particularly in areas capable of strengthening the professional capacity and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian military.
The CDS also expressed appreciation for the continued goodwill and support of the Saudi government towards Nigeria, noting that stronger institutional and professional links between the two countries’ armed forces would enhance their ability to respond to shared security challenges.
In his remarks, Al-Balawi described Nigeria as an important partner in Africa and expressed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to deepen relations with the country, particularly in the defence and security sectors.
The Ambassador said stronger engagement between the armed forces of both countries would provide opportunities for greater cooperation while advancing their shared interests in peace, security and regional stability.
Both sides expressed optimism that the discussions would translate into tangible areas of cooperation and further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
