The Nigerian Navy has intensified its offensive against militant and kidnapping networks in Cross River State, recording fresh operational gains following the destruction of a major criminal hideout at Dayspring Island.
In a statement issued on May 4, 2026, the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, said the success was the result of sustained clearance operations conducted by personnel of NNS Victory and Forward Operating Base Ibaka.
According to the Navy, troops uncovered and seized ten outboard engines concealed in surrounding bushes and within a structure near a previously dismantled militant residence linked to a suspect identified as “Juju.” The recovery, it said, forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the logistics networks sustaining criminal activities along the waterways.
In a separate intelligence-led operation near Akpamfi Creek, naval personnel advanced on another suspected militant camp. On sighting the troops, the militants reportedly fled, abandoning two fibre boats and a 200-horsepower outboard engine, all of which were recovered and secured.
The Navy noted that fibre boats and high-powered engines remain critical assets for militant groups, enabling rapid movement, smuggling operations, and coordinated attacks. Their seizure, therefore, represents a significant disruption to the operational capabilities of criminal elements in the region.
Authorities added that sustained naval pressure has continued to degrade militant networks, restrict their mobility, and deny them safe havens across the state’s waterways.
Reaffirming its resolve, the Navy said operations would continue until all criminal elements are flushed out, while urging residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence.
