Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a terrorist attack on a military position in Monguno, Borno State, maintaining control of the area after a fierce gun battle.
The incident occurred late on April 12, 2026, when insurgents launched an isolated attack on a location known as Charlie 13 under Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force.
Military sources said troops engaged the attackers in an intense exchange of fire, forcing them to retreat while securing the base.
However, tragedy struck when the Commanding Officer, who was moving to assess the situation at the frontline, ran into an improvised explosive device (IED).
The explosion destroyed his vehicle, leading to his death along with six other soldiers.
The military described the fallen officer as a courageous leader who demonstrated exceptional bravery by moving towards danger in a bid to ensure the safety and effectiveness of his troops.
Operation HADIN KAI said the actions of the officer and his men reflected dedication, sacrifice and commitment to duty in the fight against insurgency.
The command expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the fallen personnel paid the ultimate price in service to the nation and would be remembered for their gallantry.
