President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, forwarding his name to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The nomination, conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, follows the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office in Oyo State.
According to the statement, Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over three decades of experience in fiscal management, economic reform, and institutional development across both public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in governance reform, fiscal policy, and institutional transformation. His career also includes advisory roles to government agencies and private organisations on regulatory frameworks and investment strategies.
Tegbe is currently the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China, focusing on economic development and strategic partnerships aligned with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The Presidency noted that Tegbe has also been involved in engagements within the power sector, particularly in areas of regulatory and institutional reform, working with key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
It added that his nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by the administration to reform the electricity sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, Tegbe would leverage his experience to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s power sector.
