Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have stepped up offensive operations against terrorist elements in Zamfara State, recording fresh gains with the neutralisation of insurgents and recovery of arms during coordinated clearance missions.

The latest operations, conducted in the early hours of May 4, 2026, targeted multiple terrorist enclaves across Talata Mafara and Maradun Local Government Areas, as part of an ongoing push to dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.

Military sources said troops advanced through key locations including Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara, as well as Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi, and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun, engaging terrorists in a series of encounters.

At Tungar Magaji, troops came into direct contact with armed elements and responded with overwhelming firepower, neutralising two terrorists while forcing others to retreat under pressure.

A follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, along with a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing fighters.

The operation forms part of a sustained military campaign to clear terrorist hideouts within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor, a known hub for armed groups responsible for attacks on communities across the state.

Military authorities said the intensified offensive is aimed at degrading the operational capacity of terrorists, disrupting their mobility, and restoring normalcy to affected areas.

They reaffirmed that troops will continue to maintain pressure on criminal elements through aggressive clearance operations, while urging residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence.

The renewed push underscores the military’s determination to reclaim ungoverned spaces and strengthen security across Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
