The Interim National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has declared that the party will contest every election in 2027, insisting that no political force can stop it from appearing on the ballot.
Speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting, Turaki said the party remained focused despite its internal leadership challenges, stressing, “PDP shall be on the ballot for all rounds of the 2027 elections.”
He described the party’s current crisis as temporary, arguing that the PDP had survived more difficult periods in the past and would emerge stronger once again.
Turaki recalled the leadership crisis that led to the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee, saying the party overcame that challenge and would also overcome the present one.
He alleged that the crisis affecting opposition parties could be traced to the ruling party, expressing regret that political competition had created tension across the country.
According to him, while other opposition parties face what he called an “existential threat,” the PDP remains stable enough to recover and reposition for future elections.
Turaki said stakeholders were convened to review recent developments, including the court judgment delivered last Friday in a suit filed by the party’s Board of Trustees.
He explained that the leadership would study the judgment, agree on a common position and develop strategies to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The PDP chairman thanked party leaders and members for their loyalty, commitment and confidence in the party, saying their support had kept the opposition alive through difficult times.
He urged members to remain united and optimistic, declaring, “Nobody can kill the PDP. We will overcome, and victory is ours.”
