Security experts, senior military officers, diplomats and government officials are expected to converge in Abuja on May 21, 2026, for the public presentation of a new book documenting Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the North-East.
The book, titled Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria, was authored by former Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force and former Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf (rtd).
The event is scheduled to hold at the Sani Abacha Hall, National Defence College, Abuja, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler, alongside state governors, members of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, retired military leaders, diplomats, scholars and other key stakeholders in the security sector.
According to the organisers, the book presentation will spotlight Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf’s experiences, operational insights and lessons learned from years of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency campaigns against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the North-East region.
The publication, presented in two volumes, is expected to contribute significantly to national security discourse, military studies and the documentation of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.
The books will be reviewed by the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, who is expected to examine the strategic, historical and policy relevance of the publication.
Organisers said the event aims to deepen discussions around counterterrorism operations, security sector reforms and evolving military strategies for addressing asymmetric threats in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.
Media organisations have also been encouraged to cover the event, given its significance to defence studies, military history and ongoing national security conversations.
