The Lagos State Police Command has deployed officers on a permanent basis to Grange School and Greensprings School, Ikeja, following security threats sent to the schools by unknown persons, triggering temporary closures and concern among parents.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the deployment after the schools received threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unidentified number. Grange School shut its doors on Thursday, while Greensprings School (Anthony Campus) asked students who reported for classes to return home as authorities assessed the situation.
In a letter to parents dated January 21, 2026, the Head of Grange School, Richard McMahon, said the decision to close was taken as a precautionary measure to allow engagement with security agencies. He assured parents that there was no immediate danger but stressed that the safety of students and staff remained the school’s top priority.
The police later said the threat had been neutralised following a swift, intelligence-led response. In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, the Rapid Response Squad and other tactical teams, conducted a comprehensive sweep of the school premises.
According to the police, no explosive or hazardous materials were found, and the schools were declared safe for academic and administrative activities. Investigations have commenced to trace and apprehend the sender(s) of the threat messages.
Meanwhile, the Association of Private Educators in Nigeria urged schools to strengthen security protocols and remain vigilant, while noting that assurances had been received from the Lagos State Government that the situation was under control.
