Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State have renewed calls for the governorship position to remain in the Yobe East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.

The supporters said allowing Yobe East to produce the next governor would promote fairness, political balance and continuity of development across the state.

The call was made at the weekend during a rally organised by the APC Yobe East Solidarity Movement in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Party members and supporters from across the senatorial district attended the event to express support for the zone’s governorship aspiration.

Speaking at the rally, leader of the movement and former Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Ibrahim Bakabe, said the demand was a long-standing political agitation.

He noted that the push for Yobe East to retain the governorship did not begin recently, but had been part of the state’s political discourse for years.

Bakabe recalled that similar efforts were made during the administration of the late Governor Mamman Ali between 2011 and 2015.

He argued that compared to other senatorial districts, Yobe East had spent relatively little time occupying the state’s highest political office

According to him, equity, inclusiveness and democratic fairness require that the zone be given another opportunity to lead the state in 2027.

Bakabe also disclosed that the rally was aimed at encouraging Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, who represents Yobe East, to contest the governorship.

He cited the senator’s legislative record and constituency projects as evidence of his preparedness for higher responsibility.

The movement, he added, had not begun any formal campaign but was engaging in early consultations to strengthen party unity and prepare the APC for the 2027 governorship election in Yobe State.
