Nigeria and Switzerland have agreed to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation, with a renewed focus on non-kinetic strategies for addressing contemporary security challenges.

The commitment was reaffirmed on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Felix Egloff, to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Oluyede Olusegun, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting formed part of ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at expanding cooperation between both countries in defence, peacebuilding and humanitarian support.

Ambassador Egloff said Switzerland is keen on deepening its defence and diplomatic partnership with Nigeria, particularly in initiatives that promote peace, stability and human security.

He stressed that non-kinetic approaches, including dialogue, development-driven interventions and institutional partnerships, are essential in tackling the root causes of insecurity.

According to him, Switzerland remains committed to supporting efforts that complement conventional military operations and prioritise inclusive, people-centred solutions.

In his response, General Oluyede welcomed the Swiss delegation and appreciated Switzerland’s continued support for Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Defence Chief acknowledged the growing importance of non-kinetic strategies in enhancing civil-military relations and improving the effectiveness of security operations.

He expressed confidence that the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Switzerland would continue to deepen through sustained cooperation.

The visit underscored the shared resolve of both countries to pursue collaborative and forward-looking solutions to evolving security challenges through mutual engagement and partnership.
