The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has sustained aerial surveillance operations in support of ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, as security agencies intensify the search for the victims.

The development was disclosed by Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, during a courtesy visit by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, who represented the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.

Governor Makinde said the Nigerian Air Force responded swiftly immediately after the abduction was reported by deploying an aerial surveillance platform to provide intelligence support for ongoing rescue operations. He noted that the surveillance missions have continued to generate valuable intelligence used by security agencies in tracking developments and coordinating efforts aimed at securing the victims’ safe release.

According to the governor, the intelligence gathered through the aerial operations has significantly strengthened search-and-rescue efforts by providing real-time information and improving situational awareness for personnel involved in the operation.

Makinde assured residents of the affected communities that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, remains fully committed to ensuring the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils. He appealed for patience and continued support from members of the public as efforts to resolve the situation continue.

The governor commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt intervention and unwavering support, noting that the Service made its surveillance assets available at a critical time when Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial platforms are yet to become fully operational.

He explained that the state government’s decision to acquire aerial assets followed extensive consultations with the Nigerian Air Force to guarantee access to technical expertise, maintenance support, engineering services and pilot training. According to him, the platforms are currently being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.

Makinde expressed confidence that once operational, the newly acquired assets would significantly enhance security operations not only within Oyo State but also across neighbouring states, strengthening the region’s overall security architecture.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh conveyed the solidarity of the Nigerian Air Force with the government and people of Oyo State during the difficult period. He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to supporting all efforts geared towards the safe rescue of the abducted victims.

Suleh also commended the Oyo State Government for its continued support for Nigerian Air Force projects and infrastructure development within the state, describing the partnership as a vital component of efforts to improve national security and operational effectiveness.

The Nigerian Air Force reiterated that it remains committed to working closely with other security agencies, state governments and relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property while contributing to efforts aimed at addressing security challenges across the country.

The continued deployment of NAF surveillance assets underscores the military’s determination to leverage air power and intelligence capabilities in support of ongoing operations to rescue the abducted victims and restore security in the affected communities.
