The Oyo State Government has imposed a 16-hour daily curfew across 10 local government areas as part of efforts to address rising insecurity in parts of the state.

The restriction, which runs from 4 pm to 8 am, will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, according to a government memo.

The directive was issued through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.

It applies to local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.

The affected LGAs are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

The government said the curfew is a temporary measure aimed at restoring order in vulnerable communities.

The decision follows recent security concerns, including abductions of schoolchildren and teachers in the Orire area.

The development has also triggered renewed public protests calling for the release of kidnapped victims.

Protesters, led by Juwon Sanyaolu, said the demonstrations are part of sustained pressure on authorities to act.

They accused government officials of failing to respond decisively to the worsening security situation.

The organisers vowed to continue protests until all abducted persons are freed, while urging urgent action from both state and federal authorities.
