President Muhammadu Buhari has honoured the Superintendent of Police, Daniel Itse-Amah, who rejected a $200,000 bribe with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award.

The Award, anchored by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, was presented to Mr Amah during the opening ceremony of the 4th National Summit on Diminishing Corruption, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recall that in April 2021, Mr Amah, who is the divisional police officer, DPO, of the Nasarawa Divisional headquarters of police in Kano State, had rejected a bribe offer from one Ali Zaki who was arrested for alleged armed robbery.

The police officer rejected the offer and continued with his investigation.

This act, according to reports, earned him commendation from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, in August.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police dated September 13, the chairman of the ICPC, Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, informed the IGP of the selection of Mr Amah as a recipient of the exalted award, which aims to reward professional excellence and eliminate corruption in the public service.

“I wish to inform the IGP that after due consideration, the officer SP Daniel Itse Amah has been selected for the 2022 public service integrity Award.

“In this regard, the Commission wishes to invite the IGP, as the chief executive of the organisation that produced the awardee, as a special guest to the opening ceremony,” the letter partly reads.
