The Chinese government have decried what they described as rising attacks and violence against uts citizens residing in Nigeria.

Chinese authorities said attacks against Chinese nationals in Nigeria, particularly kidnappings both onshore and at sea, rose substantially in 2021 prompting the current effort by the embassy to call on the government to intervene.

High-level Chinese and Nigerian security officials met recently in Abuja to discuss how to reduce crime and violence against Chinese nationals residing in Nigeria.

Yin Guohai from China’s  Ministry of Public Security along with Ambassador Cui Jianchun held talks with the Director-General of the State Security Services, Yusuf Bichi, on Monday about the deteriorating security environment in Nigeria and what can be done to better protect Chinese people and enterprises.

Late last year, the Chinese Public Security Ministry convened an online forum with Chinese diplomats and business leaders to get their input on the worsening security conditions in Nigeria.
