The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck loaded with military camouflage uniforms and caps, arresting four suspects linked to an alleged smuggling syndicate.
The operation has raised renewed concerns over the illegal circulation of military accoutrements within the country.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the Epe area of Lagos State.
Police recovered 47 bags of camouflage uniforms and caps from an unregistered MAN diesel truck.
The command said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations carried out by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, confirmed the arrests while briefing journalists at the command headquarters.
He said the truck was also discovered to be carrying about 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs concealed alongside the military items.
Preliminary findings indicate that the uniforms were being transported to the eastern part of the country.
The police said investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the items and other individuals connected to the syndicate.
In a separate operation, 34 foreign nationals were also arrested on Lagos Island for failing to provide satisfactory explanations for their presence in the state.
