Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a major political development ahead of future elections in the state.
Mimiko was received at the APC secretariat in Ondo West Local Government by the party’s state chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, alongside Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji.
The former governor’s defection followed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April, which had sparked widespread speculation over his next political destination.
His entry into the ruling party is expected to reshape political alignments in Ondo State due to his strong grassroots influence and long-standing political network.
Mimiko governed Ondo State between 2009 and 2017 and remains widely recognised for reforms and investments in the healthcare sector during his administration.
Before joining the PDP, he was one of the leading figures of the Labour Party and built significant political structures across the state.
APC leaders at the event described his defection as a boost to the party’s strength and political reach in Ondo State.
Kolawole welcomed the former governor into the APC, expressing confidence that his experience would contribute to the growth of the party in the state.
The presence of top APC officials at the reception underscored the significance attached to Mimiko’s return to frontline politics through the ruling party.
Political observers believe the development could influence future political calculations in Ondo State as parties intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
