The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness for the 2027 general election, as the party hosted a pre-election assessment delegation of the International Republican Institute (IRI) in Abuja.

PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the party remained committed to democratic participation and giving Nigerians the opportunity to choose their leaders.

Receiving the delegation at the PDP national headquarters in Wadata, Abuja, Mohammed welcomed the IRI team and thanked it for its continued engagement with Nigeria’s democratic process.

He said the party’s structures across the 36 states and the FCT remained focused on its preparations for the 2027 elections.

Mohammed also referenced the recent Osun State governorship election, noting the large voter turnout and the electorate’s participation in choosing its governor.

“We are the Peoples Democratic Party, and we belong to the people of Nigeria,” the national chairman said.

Jenai Cox, Head of Delegation and Africa Regional Director, IRI, said the institute’s pre-election mission was assessing Nigeria’s political environment and preparations for the 2027 general election.

Cox said the delegation had just returned from Osun State, where it observed the governorship election as part of its assessment of the electoral process.

“Our pre-election assessment mission is here to learn more from a variety of stakeholders about the pre-election period and preparations ahead of the general election,” Cox said.

She added that IRI would engage stakeholders and political parties before presenting preliminary findings and recommendations at the end of the week, as part of its assessment of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
