Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has pledged sweeping investments in education and healthcare, alongside firm guarantees of electoral transparency, as he positions for the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Sunday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, at the OBIDIENT Conference and formal declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi said his political choices were anchored on safeguarding democracy and restoring credible leadership.

He explained that his exit from the Labour Party followed information that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognise the party’s leadership if he remained, raising doubts about his eligibility for future contests on that platform.

Despite the setback, Obi declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, warning that democratic participation must not be stifled by administrative or political manoeuvres.

He stressed that credible elections are non-negotiable, insisting on electronic, real-time transmission of results as the cornerstone of transparency and public trust in the electoral process.

On policy, Obi said Nigeria’s long-term stability rests on deliberate investment in human capital, with quality education and accessible healthcare forming the bedrock of sustainable growth.

He argued that nations which prioritise their people achieve enduring progress, adding that social sector spending would be central to his development agenda.

Addressing governance, Obi promised a sharp reduction in corruption through ethical leadership and institutional discipline, insisting that public officials and their families must not benefit personally from state resources.

He also called for national unity ahead of 2027, urging Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political lines to collaborate in rebuilding a country strained by economic and governance challenges.

Earlier, the Global Coordinator of the OBIDIENT Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, rallied supporters nationwide to intensify grassroots mobilisation and civic engagement, reaffirming the movement’s commitment to electoral reform and transparent governance.
