The Government of Sierra Leone has honoured distinguished military figures from Africa, Europe and North America in recognition of their contributions to regional peace and security.
The ceremony celebrated former Chief of Defence Staff, Martin Luther Agwai (Rtd), alongside Daniel Opande (Rtd) of Kenya, Ibrahima Sory Bangoura of Guinea, Paul Rogers of the United States, and Edward Butler (Rtd) of the United Kingdom.
In a solemn tribute, Sierra Leone paid glowing homage to the Nigerian Armed Forces for their bravery, resilience and steadfast protection of civilians during critical peace enforcement operations.

Officials at the event praised the Nigerian contingent for standing at the forefront of efforts to restore stability, noting that the troops demonstrated uncommon gallantry in the face of grave danger.
Speakers highlighted Nigeria’s pivotal role in regional peacekeeping missions, describing its Armed Forces as a stabilising force in West Africa during periods of conflict.

The ceremony, beyond the presentation of medals and citations, underscored the enduring bonds between Nigeria and Sierra Leone, forged in sacrifice and strengthened through sustained cooperation.
Observers said the honour reaffirmed the importance of regional collaboration in safeguarding peace, stability and democratic order across the sub-region.
