The Headquarters of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has hosted participants of Air Force War College Course 12/2026 as part of a national study tour aimed at strengthening strategic air power integration and enhancing support for civil authority in North-West Nigeria.

The tour, built around the theme “State Resources and Air Power: National Development in Northwest Nigeria in Focus,” is designed to bridge the gap between operational field realities and high-level military planning. It also seeks to examine how air power can be effectively deployed to improve security outcomes and support socio-economic development across the region.

Speaking during the visit, Commandant of the Air Force War College, Air Vice Marshal Gambo Mbaka, disclosed that participants were divided into three groups to enable wider engagement across key operational areas. According to him, Team A is currently in Sokoto State, Team B in Kebbi State, and Team C in Zamfara State.

Mbaka explained that the study tour provides participants with firsthand exposure to prevailing security challenges in the North-West, while also highlighting ongoing collaborative efforts among the Nigerian Army, the Air Force, and other security agencies in addressing threats such as banditry and terrorism.

He emphasised the importance of combining theoretical knowledge with real-world operational experience, noting that such engagements are critical in sharpening professional judgment and improving overall mission readiness.

The Commandant also commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General Bemgba Koughna, for the warm reception and institutional support extended to the delegation.

Representing the GOC, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 8 Division, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, welcomed the participants and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and continuous professional development within the Armed Forces.

Activities during the visit included detailed operational briefings on the structure and activities of the 8 Division and Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as well as strategic engagements with the Sokoto State Government on sub-national security approaches.

Participants also undertook a cultural visit to the Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau, aimed at deepening their understanding of the historical and socio-cultural dynamics shaping the region.

The study tour is expected to enhance strategic thinking among participants while reinforcing civil-military cooperation, ultimately contributing to improved security and sustainable development across North-West Nigeria.
