The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Sallau Ali, has assessed the progress of Operation Lake Sanity 2 and concluded that terrorists have lost their direct combat capacity and are now relying on improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and propaganda to sustain their relevance.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lt-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi.

During his operational visit to the troops in Monguno and Wulgo on June 5 and 6, 2024, Ali urged commanders to intensify their efforts and demonstrate determination in achieving the objectives of the operation. He underscored the importance of understanding the enemy’s tactics and adapting to the dynamic operational environment.

The Force Commander also commended the bravery and resilience of the troops in Wulgo, located on the Nigeria-Cameroon border, and paid tribute to the soldiers who had fallen in the line of duty. He encouraged the troops to remain focused on their mission and avoid distractions.

In Monguno, Nigeria, Ali addressed commanders from both Nigeria and Chad, urging them to intensify their efforts and maintain determination in achieving the operation’s objectives. He again  stressed the need to understand the evolving tactics of the enemy, noting that terrorists, having lost their direct combat capabilities, now heavily rely on IEDs and propaganda to sustain their relevance.

“The enemy, having lost their ability to engage in direct combat, now relies on IEDs and propaganda. It’s crucial that we adapt our strategies accordingly and remain vigilant,” stated General Ali.

During his visit to Wulgo, situated on the Nigeria-Cameroon border,  Ali praised the bravery and resilience of the troops. He paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and encouraged the troops to stay focused on their mission, emphasising the importance of avoiding distractions. He also highlighted the need for commanders to exercise their initiative and make decisions that reflect the dynamic operational environment.

The Force Commander assured that the MNJTF remains steadfast in its mission to restore peace and stability in the region, with ongoing efforts to counter the evolving tactics of terrorist groups.
