The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced the end of admissions into affiliated degree programmes run by colleges of education in Nigeria.
The decision is contained in its newly released NCE/ND Agric Registration Guidelines issued in June 2026 by the Office of the Registrar.
The policy is described as a major reform in teacher education across the country.
It will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
Under the new arrangement, admissions into colleges of education will now be strictly through the Nigeria Certificate in Education programme.
JAMB stated that no admission will be allowed into 100 or 200 level in any college of education from the new session.
The board added that affiliated degree programmes previously run in partnership with universities will no longer admit new students.
Candidates who had selected affiliated degree options through Direct Entry will be required to change their choices.
UTME candidates affected will either switch institutions or proceed through the NCE route.
The new policy will be fully implemented from the 2026/2027 academic session, marking a major restructuring of teacher education admissions in Nigeria.
